The costs for a new environmental park in Assen amount to almost 7 million euros. The plan would initially cost almost 6 million euros, but according to the municipality, additional money is now needed for the project.
The Assen council asks the municipal council to agree to an additional investment of 950,000 euros.
The current environmental park at the City Business Park in Assen is now more than twenty years old, although it was built as a temporary facility. Almost two years ago it was discovered that the environmental park was experiencing a number of problems.
Several containers are leaking and buildings on the site are rusting or suffering from mold. The municipality therefore decided to invest in a new environmental park, also because the maintenance costs of the current park are increasing.
According to Mayor Marco Out, the fact that the plans are now more expensive is partly due to increases in raw material prices and nitrogen measures that are necessary, as can be read in a proposal to the council.
The new environmental park will be located on the site of the current environmental site, which will remain open during the redevelopment. The work will be carried out in phases. The first work will take place at the beginning of the new year. The renewal should be ready in about a year.
In February, the municipal council will consider the proposal to invest extra money in the new environmental park.
