In Dortmund the trend should go up again. For this, the club brought back an old friend to the Bundesliga. But is he the right one?

At the end of August the cheer was still great: Jamie Gitten’s Borussia Dortmund shot on the first matchday of the Bundesliga with a double pack against Eintracht Frankfurt. The team of ex-coach Nuri Şahin was motivated, alive and ambitious. Five months later, reality is different.

BVB is in eleven in the league, has already left the DFB Cup and has just separated from his trainer, the former Dortmund player Şahin, after this negative run. On Thursday, the troubled club officially presented Niko Kovač as a new coach. He already trained Eintracht Frankfurt, FC Bayern and most recently VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.

Nevertheless, the decision is controversial. Many trust Kovač, who was often released prematurely, not to lead the club to success again.

In the coming weekend, interim coach Mike Tullberg will be sitting on the bench against the 1st FC Heidenheim. The new coach’s debut will then take place in the following week against VfB Stuttgart.
