New coach just before signing

Only on Saturday, VfB Stuttgart presented a new sports director with Fabian Wohlgemuth. Now a new head coach is to be presented.

According to a “picture” report, Bruno Labbadia and his assistant coach Bernhard Trares are about to sign with VfB Stuttgart.

Most recently, the “t-online” portal reported that Labbadia was to return to the Bundesliga and take over the Swabians, who were threatened with relegation, as the successors to Pellegrino Matarazzo, who had already been released in October, and interim coach Michael Wimmer. Then as now, VfB did not comment on the name.

The 56-year-old Labbadia, who has already coached Hertha BSC, VfL Wolfsburg and Hamburger SV, among others, would take over VfB a second time. From December 2010 to the end of August 2013 he was responsible for the Swabians.

Former attacker Kevin Kuranyi was skeptical about Labbadia returning to VfB.

“After the last few months, the step is understandable. If it’s true that Bruno Labbadia will come back to Stuttgart, that would of course not be an innovative solution,” he told the “Deutsche Presse-Agentur”: “But if he wins six games in a row, Then it was the right choice. That can go well. But I could also imagine someone without a VfB past.”

Wohlgemuth should set “new impetus” at VfB Stuttgart

The new sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth will have a great influence on the coach’s decision. The 43-year-old comes from the second division SC Paderborn and signed for the Bundesliga-16. a contract until 2025.

The replacement should be both a “new impetus” and a “sign of continuity,” said CEO Alexander Wehrle.

Wohlgemuth, Managing Director Sport at SCP since May 2020, said about VfB: “It is a lively club with a great fan culture, an exciting team and incredible potential. At the same time it is clear that the sporting and economic tasks at VfB will challenge our team spirit .”
