When things aren’t going well in football, as is the case with Mainz, who are bottom of the table, then the coaching question is quickly asked. Bo Henriksen is not yet openly counted – but who could take over if the worst comes to the worst? Podcast host Anne Hilt and sports show presenter Alex Schlüter talk about this in the current episode “Bundesliga Update”.

Alex Schlüter’s suggestion to put Marco Rose on the wish list is not entirely serious. Just like Anne Hilt’s to bring Bo Svensson back. But a look at the 2020/21 season shows that back then, Bo Henriksen’s predecessor took over Mainz in a very similar situation and went from the penultimate place in the table to 12th place with 6 points after 14 games.

Mainz is the team with the biggest fall

Last season, Mainz was in seventh place after 11 matchdays, and by the end of the season they had even fought their way up, meaning that Mainz are now playing in the Conference League – probably one of the current problems: the double burden. This season there are ten points less compared to last year and significantly bigger problems that don’t just go by the name “Johnny Burkhard”. In addition to the striker, who is sorely missed in Mainz, the Henriksen team is also constantly being sent off.

In the current podcast episode, Anne Hilt and Alex Schlüter also talk about the other games on matchday 12 – including the top game between Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund.
