Production of high-quality steel for cars or washing machines entirely from scrap in an electric arc furnace instead of a coal or gas blast furnace. Tata Steel Netherlands, together with car manufacturer Volvo, white goods manufacturer Electrolux Professional and various European knowledge institutions supported by millions of subsidies from Brussels, is conducting research into the applicability of this in IJmuiden.
