In an interview, The Edge suggested that there will be a renaissance in guitar music and would like to lead this rock comeback. They also have great material in the pipeline that he’s looking forward to developing and publishing.

“The lockdown was a very creative time for me, especially when it came to composing music. […] There’s a lot of great material waiting [veröffentlicht zu werden, Anm. d. Red.]. I think the guitar is coming back. I really can feel it. And I’d love to be a part of that,” the U2 guitarist said in an interview with the magazine.mojo“.

“I would love to lead this guitar resurgence! Don’t get me wrong when I’m talking to people who work at Fender [dem Gitarrengeschäft, Anm. d. Red.] work, they sell more guitars today than ever before. But as far as pop culture goes, you could say it’s moved away from that instrument. And I think the pendulum will swing back the other way. Because it is such an incredibly expressive instrument. The few bands that use it well are still fresh.”

U2 want to get loud again

The “great material” is a “loud, no-holds-barred, awesome guitar album” that makes you “turn up the amps” and throw yourself back to the rock music the band listened to as 16 and 17-year-olds. This would be in contrast to “Songs of Surrender,” released March 17, in which Bono and The Edge cut and acoustically reinterpreted many songs.
