Netflix prepares an animated series of the ‘Ghostbusters’

Netflix prepares an animated series of the sagaGhostbusters‘. The fiction will be produced by Sony Pictures Animation itself and will feature Jason Reitman Y Gil Kenan, in charge of directing and writing the return of the franchise in 2021, as executive producers.

At the moment, little is known about the plot of the new animated series, also remaining unknown if it will follow the chronology of the saga or if it will jump in time or be a spin-off. Nor has it been revealed who will be the writers and directors of this production for the small screen. It is only known that Netflix will take over the fiction together with Ghost Corps, Inc. and Sony itself.

If the project ends up taking shape, it will be the third animated series in the franchise. In 1986, ‘The Real Ghostbusters’ was released, which ran from 1986 to 1991 and had a total of 140 episodes. It had a sequel, ‘The Return of the Ghostbusters’, released in 1997, of which only 40 chapters and that it had as a novelty that most of the characters were new.

The announcement of the new animated series for Netflix coincides with the call ghostbusters dayfrom which more news of the saga is expected to emerge.

After the iconic 1984 film, directed by Ivan Reitman and starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Remis, Ernie Hudson, and Rick Moranis. Such was the success of the first installment, that it had a sequel five years later, ‘Ghostbusters 2’. After a failed reboot directed by Paul Feig in 2016, the franchise returned at the end of 2021 with ‘Ghostbusters: Beyond’, which exceeded 200 million dollars at the box office and returned the illusion for the saga.
