Nearly 700 patients with coronavirus in hospital, 82 new patients admitted to nursing wards in the past 24 hours

In Dutch hospitals, almost as many corona patients are in hospital on Monday as at the beginning of May, when the number of hospital patients with Covid decreased. A total of 685 people with Covid-19 are now in hospital, according to figures from the National Coordination Center for Patients Spreading (LCPS). There are 92 more than before the weekend.

On Monday, 37 people with Covid-19 were in intensive care, 648 in the nursing wards. Before the weekend, there were still 27 corona patients in the IC and 566 in the nursing ward. The LCPS said last week that the increase in hospitals was mainly seen in the nursing wards. That week, the number of corona patients in intensive care remained about the same, between 20 and 30.

In the past 24 hours, 82 new patients with corona were admitted to the nursing wards. 5 new patients were brought in on the ICUs. The withdrawals are higher than the weekly average.

Relatively low

Despite the increase, the number of corona patients in hospitals is still relatively low. There are currently significantly fewer patients who have tested positive for corona in hospital than in the last wave. Between the end of October and the end of April, hospitals continuously treated more than a thousand patients with Covid.

The LCPS does not distinguish between people who were admitted as a direct result of their corona infection and people who ended up in hospital for another cause and who happened to be infected.
