More than seven in ten Belgians owned a home in 2020-2021. This is apparent from the first results of the fourth round of the “Household Finance and Consumption Survey” (HFCS). The survey was conducted by the National Bank and provides insight into the economic activities and financial situation of families.

In 2020-2021, 72 percent of Belgians owned their own home. That is an increase of three percent compared to 2017.

In addition to their own home, approximately 18 percent of Belgian families owned immovable property that is not their primary residence. In that case, it usually concerns a second property.
