Tennis player Tamara Korpatsch has celebrated the greatest success of her career. The Hamburg native defeated local hero Elena Gabriela Ruse 6:3, 6:4 in the final of the tournament in Cluj-Lapoca, Romania, and thus won her first WTA title.

By triumphing at the $259,303 Transylvania Open, she also made a big leap forward in the world rankings from 105th place.

In contrast to the semi-final in the Hamburg duel with Eva Lys (6:4, 6:3), Korpatsch didn’t get off to a good start in the final against local hero Ruse and conceded two breaks in the first three games to be 0-3 behind. But then the 28-year-old turned things around impressively and won the first set by winning six games in a row.

At the beginning of the second set, the world number 188 succeeded. Ruse then managed to break the German run and hold on until the score was 2-2. Having won three games in a row, Korpatsch then broke away again, but missed an earlier decision with his own serve. After 1:50 hours she finally used her first match point to win the tournament.
