NBA star Ja Morant banned after nightclub video

Basketball star Ja Morant has been suspended for eight NBA games without pay for the controversial nightclub video. The reason was “league-damaging behavior,” said the North American professional league.

The point guard will be available to the Memphis Grizzlies against the Dallas Mavericks on March 20 at the earliest, it said.

The trigger was a video streamed on Instagram in early March, in which the 23-year-old was seen shirtless in a nightclub, showing what appeared to be a weapon. The NBA then announced that an investigation had been launched against Morant. Since then he has not played any more games for the Grizzlies.

“Ja’s behavior was irresponsible, reckless and potentially very dangerous,” said NBA boss Adam Silver in a statement. “It also has serious implications given his huge following and influence, especially among young fans who look up to him.” The All-Star is considered one of the best young professionals in the NBA. He has sincerely shown remorse for his behavior, Silver said.
