Cooper Flagg, who plays for the Dallas Mavericks in the American Basketball League (NBA), was selected as the rookie player of the year. According to the NBA’s statement, 19-year-old Flagg won the best rookie player award in the 2025-2026 season as a result of the voting by media members.
Kon Knueppel from Charlotte Hornets took second place in the voting, and VJ Edgecombe from Philadelphia 76ers took third place.
Flagg, who won the award named after the legendary basketball player Wilt Chamberlain, to which the players who spent their first year in the league were nominated, completed the regular season with averages of 21 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.2 steals.
The American basketball scorer, who scored 51 points against Orlando Magic this season, became the youngest player to score 50 points in an NBA game.
Flagg also became the first rookie player after Michael Jordan to top his team’s points, rebounds, assists and steals statistics since the 1984-85 season.
