Jim Verschoor is a guard officer and controls the Combat Support Ship Den Helder at tours. “She sails great. She responds very well, has super big stirring and the propulsion is great. That makes the ship very maneuverable and very nice to sail.”
Thanks to the ship, the name Den Helder will pass the whole world. Mayor Jan de Boer thinks that the appearance is good for both parties: “We have just made new agreements with the government, the province and the Navy. What is good for the Navy is good for Den Helder. But also the other way around: it ensures employment, education and a safer Netherlands.”
Ready -made
In the coming period, the Navy will prepare the ship to be used. For example, there will still be weapon systems on board. Wacht officer Jim Verschoor: “We are still working up for a few months. We expect that we will be ready for naval tasks at the end of this year.”
