The Netherlands is organizing the NATO-TOP 2025 on 24 and 25 June. Our country then welcomes dozens of world leaders and ministers and thousands of delegation members in the World Forum in The Hague. To be able to transport them safely and undisturbed between Schiphol and The Hague, traffic and safety measures are needed. In the Randstad, road users can experience serious nuisance on the days around the top.
If it is possible, try to avoid the Randstad by working at home as much as possible from Monday 23 to Thursday 26 June 2025, not traveling during peak hours and using public transport. As a result, the The Hague region remains accessible as well as possible.
Nuisance from Sunday afternoon June 22 to Friday June 27
Road users between Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam must already take the first nuisance on the road into account from Sunday afternoon, June 22. This is due to the necessary preparations, such as placing deposits. Due to (temporary and partial) closures of (fast) roads, entrances and exits and viaducts and tunnels on roads A5, A4, A44 and N44, there is a chance of serious nuisance from that moment and including Thursday 26 June. The same applies to regional and local roads around and in The Hague, Wassenaar, Katwijk, Noordwijk, Haarlemmermeer, Leiden and Rotterdam. Emergency services (police, ambulance and fire brigade) receive free passage for emergency trials on local and regional roads where they cross the deposited route. This way they can quickly reach their destination, even when highways are closed.
Public transport
There are no restrictions on the track. The Dutch Railways are driving the normal timetable to ensure that people can simply be from A to B. It can be extra busy on the train. There is no extra capacity available to reduce that pressure. At the moment it is not yet known exactly what the consequences are for local public transport companies. The expectation is that it can also become busier in the public transport lines and there may be lines.
Still on the road?
Do you still have to go on the road? If possible, leave the car, travel by public transport, take the bike or go on foot. The advice is well prepared to go home by the website www.vananaarbeter.nlthe website of your province or municipality, of the public transport companies or www.schiphol.nl to consult in advance. Keep an eye on the current traffic information and follow the diversion routes via the signs above and along the road. In any case, take into account serious nuisance and (much) longer travel times.
