The most important traffic arteries that are partially closed due to the NATO top are the A5, A4 and A44. Those highways must be empty to get the government leaders and their convoys quickly from Schiphol in The Hague.
For the motorist, the closure of the A5 is the most radical, because between junctions De Hoek and Raasdorp will be closed in both directions from tomorrow afternoon at 5 p.m. to Friday morning. The highway borders on Schiphol, where the government leaders step into the car after landing to leave the airport via a new gate.
Two lanes on A4 closed
The A4 is also partially closed, but the closure of that highway is limited to two lanes between the Hoek and Burgerveen towards The Hague. Those two lanes were closed with Barriers between junctions and Burgerveen. The Den Ruyghen Hoek parking lot at the Brugtresseant is also locked for safety reasons.
Normal traffic can therefore use the entire A4, but must take traffic jams and therefore delay due to the closure of the two lanes. That does not apply to the A44: that highway will close in the direction of The Hague tomorrow afternoon, and will remain closed until Friday morning. The road is also closed from Wassenaar towards the A4 on Wednesday.
