Thanks to Raul Jimenez, Mexico won the Nations League of the Concacaf association for the first time. The game for third place won Canada against the USA. Canada’s Alphonso Davies had to be replaced injured.

Jimenez, striker of the English Premier League-Klubs FC Fulhamscored twice for Mexico at 2-1 (1: 1) in the final of the tournament against Panama. However, the triumph of the “El Tri” was once again overshadowed by homophobic songs Mexican spectators. The game was therefore interrupted in the final minutes.

Jimenez had given Mexico in Inglewood/California in the 8th minute. Adalberto Carrasquilla (45.+2) equalized with a penalty before Jimenez again scored the acclaimed winning goal in added time (90.+2).

“This is what we wanted from the first day, since Vasco (coach Javier Aguirre, i.e. Red.) Here is”said Jimenez. The 66 -year -old Aguirre has been coach Mexicos for the third time after he had looked after the team in 2001, 2002 and 2009/2010.

Canada defeats the United States and becomes third

Mexico won the Nations League of the Concacaf association for the first time, which is responsible for North America, Central America and the Caribbean and comparable to which UEFA. Canada and the USA were also involved in the final tournament – the tournament was accompanied by political tensions.

In the game for third place, the United States lost 1-2 against Canada. The goals for the Canadians, trained by American Jesse Marsch, scored Tani Oluwaseyi (27th) and Jonathan David (59.). For the USA, Patrick Agyemang had in the meantime compensated for (35th).

At the beginning of the second half, coach Marsch saw the red card for complaint (54th).

Injury – Bavaria’s Davies gives the all -clear

Canada’s Alphonso Davies, under contract in the club at Bayern, had to be replaced in the 12th minute with knee problems. Bayern obviously do not have to fear a longer failure of their left -back.

During the game, Davies announced a reporter of “One Soccer” that he was doing well. And Canada’s assistance coach Mauro Biello told the Portal “Canadian Soccer Daily”: “I think it was a blow. He felt something and didn’t want to risk anything at that time.”
