A month and a half before the European Championship, the comeback from Lena Oberdorf is the big topic among the DFB women. In the final casting, the defense worries defuse themselves, the league top scorer is missing.

When it came to the umpteenth demand for the much discussed “Causa” Lena Oberdorf, Christian Wück then seemed a little annoyed.

“She would not be there if I did not assign an important role to her,” the national coach justified his nomination of the long -injured key player for the last hard tests before the European Championship – even if he was not so “blue -eyed” to plan her as a regular player for the title mission in summer.

Although Oberdorf has not played a game since her cruciate ligament rupture ten months ago, Wück called the Bayern star into his 25-member large contingent for the National League games against the Netherlands and Austria.

The national coach left open whether the 23-year-old could actually give her longed-for comeback in Bremen or Vienna (May 30th/June).

National team: No more consideration for FC Bayern

“Everything happens in coordination with Bayern and Lena. She absolutely wants to make the next step and gain a foothold with us,” emphasized Wück, making it clear: “We no longer have to be considerate, it is 100 percent operational and in training at Bayern.”

Before his European Championship nomination on June 12, “First of all, it is about giving her the opportunity to present itself with us. We’ll see how it gives itself-and then let’s see.”

Apart from the exciting question of how sensible a Oberdorf nomination for the tournament in Switzerland (July 2 to 27) can be after such a long forced break, Wück’s defense worries. The experienced central defenders Kathrin Hendrich, Rebecca Knaak and Sara Doorsoun are back in the national team after injuries.

On the offensive, an injury was nominated by Bundesliga top scorer Nicole Anyomi (14 goals, nine templates) since October.

Sehitler not included because of high school graduates

“She would have been invited, it is also a shame for her, because she recently performed well and scored goals,” said Wück, who has to do without newcomer Alara Sehitler in the hot phase before the title mission.

Again only on demand was vice-European champion Felicitas Rauch nominated, and Carolin Simon from Double winner FC Bayern was also completely left out as a left-back.

The Carlotta Wamser and Franziska Kett, which was first nominated by Wück, preferred as a trained offensive forces. The national coach explained that it depends on the “skills” of the youngsters who “add” to their teammates best.

In the Nations League, the recently faithful selection around captain Giulia Gwinn is now to be recorded under competition conditions at the top level. With a success in the home game against the Netherlands, Germany would be qualified for the Final Four as an early group winner.

“We want to see this as a final, really as an EM preparation with this pressure,” said Wück, who gathered his team in Bremen on Sunday.

After the EM general rehearsal, his protégés are allowed to briefly breathe before the tournament preparation in Herzogenaurach begins on June 19. The European Championship mission will then start on July 4 in St. Gallen against Poland. The other group opponents are Denmark (July 8th/Basel) and Sweden (July 12th/Zurich).
