National team: Can surprised by Süle’s non-nomination

According to his own statement, national soccer player Emre Can was surprised that his Dortmund team-mate Niklas Süle was not nominated for the three international matches in June and was criticized by national coach Hansi Flick.

“I thought he was there,” said the BVB midfielder of the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”. “I’ve seen Niklas extremely strong at our club in the last few months. He has led the way and has developed a lot personally in terms of leadership. I can judge that because I’ve known him for a very long time.”

The national coach justified Süle’s non-nomination, among other things, by saying that he was not exploiting his “huge potential”. Flick is hoping for a reaction from Süle to the measure and the public criticism in the coming season if he wants to be at the home European Championship in 2024.

Can said of his team-mate: “He’s on the team council and tries to get involved. He speaks his mind when he doesn’t like something. He’ll definitely step on the gas next season so that he’s invited again.” Flick had set up Süle in all three preliminary round games at the World Cup in Qatar.
