National Team | BVB | FC Bayern: Hummels reacts to Goretzka’s expulsion

Former soccer world champion Mats Hummels gave Leon Goretzka courage after he was not considered for the upcoming international matches – with a touch of sarcasm.

“Don’t worry, I’ve heard you get used to it over time,” commented Hummels on Instagram under Goretzka’s reaction to national coach Hansi Flick’s decision.

The 28-year-old Goretzka wrote that he was “extremely disappointed with the surprising decision not to be there in September”. The DFB selection plays next Saturday in Wolfsburg against World Cup shock Japan and three days later in Dortmund against vice world champions France – without the 53-time international Goretzka.

Hummels has played 76 international matches so far, the last in the European Championship round of 16 in summer 2021 against England (0: 2). Previously, he had been sorted out by the then national coach Joachim Löw, as well as Thomas Müller and Jérôme Boateng, in response to the elimination of the preliminary round at the 2018 World Cup.
