The heat plan applies to the entire country. The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reports this on Monday after consultation with the KNMI about the weather forecast. The temperature can rise above 30 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The aim of the Heat Plan according to RIVM to send a signal to caregivers and (care) professionals that is called again. “This helps to make them aware of extra attention for the people they take care of,” writes the RIVM On the website.
Thirst
The elderly are seen by RIVM as a vulnerable group because they are less able to control their body temperature. They are also less thirsty, so they drink less. Children and long -term sick people also risk health problems such as dehydration and heat stroke.
The RIVM advises these people and their loved ones to always have enough drinking water ready and to ensure that it does not get too hot, for example by closing the curtains or turning on a fan. The RIVM also recommends that it is, especially in the morning or in the evening, when it is not too hot.
