National coach Rintje Ritsma chooses Bart Hoolwerf and Jorrit Bergsma for World Championships mass start | To skate

Skating coach Rintje Ritsma appoints skaters Bart Hoolwerf and Jorrit Bergsma for the mass start at the World Championship distances. The national coach thus passes Louis Hollaar, who rode the last World Cup races with Hoolwerf as a duo. Ritsma prefers Bergsma, who grabbed the Dutch title at the beginning of February. Holland is reserve.

In the women’s Olympic champion Irene Schouten and title defender Marijke Groenewoud will ride the mass start. The two skaters were missing at the last World Cup competition in Poland.

Ritsma has selected Patrick Roest, Marcel Bosker and Beau Snellink for the team pursuit. The same trio won gold in this part at the World Cup in 2021. Groenewoud, Schouten and Joy Beune ride the women’s team pursuit. The Netherlands is also the defending champion here.

Merijn Scheperkamp, Hein Otterspeer and Wesly Dijs take part in the team sprint. Michelle de Jong, Marrit Fledderus and Isabel Grevelt skate the women’s section.

The World Championship distances will be held from 2 to 5 March in Thialf in Heerenveen. The NK distances were the selection moment for the five individual distances. The top 3 of the NK in the 500, 1000 and 1500 meters and in the 3000 meters for women and 5000 meters for men are allowed to start at the World Cup. There are only two starting places for the 5000 meters for women and the 10 kilometers for men. These are Schouten and Sanne in ‘t Hof and Roest and Bergsma respectively.

Roest won the national titles in the 1500 and 5000 meters and in the 10 kilometers at the NK distances and can start at the World Championships in the three distances. The 1500 meters and the 10 kilometers will both be held on March 5. Roest previously announced that the final decision to drive both distances has yet to be made.
