The Dutchman who was chased during the summer has played little so far. He and the other summer purchases devalued after just a few months
There is a market with a zero balance (the current one) and there is another largely below zero (that of last summer), because while he walks down his Avenue of Regrets, and reviews his matches and his operations one by one, Napoli and therefore De Laurentiis realize that the numbers don’t add up. It went so badly, and indeed very badly, thirtieth out of thirty-six teams, that it becomes difficult to escape a deep analysis, which embraces the entire journey in the Champions League and not just the last matches experienced in difficulty.

But then there is also something else in the balance sheet: because looking back on it, and it hurts, a hundred million euros seem to have been wasted or risk being so or in any case would be devalued. Between June and August, Napoli spent something like two hundred million to enrich their staff, a lot of cash, some payments postponed to the next financial year through the granting of onerous loans: but of those euros, a lot, the 35 for Lucca immediately became at risk (9 immediately and 26 from 1 July 2026), the 28 for Lang and for a few days also those for Beukema, and there are 32. In Voghera and beyond, the housewives would say that we are at 95.

Sam Beukema was one of the most difficult signings, Napoli chased him desperately, paid him handsomely in a summer which almost seemed as if there was no tomorrow without the Dutchman (and also without Ndoye, who later ended up at Nottingham Forrest), who to date has been on the bench eleven times, in the infirmary three times and has played a total of just 1287 minutes. In the defensive hierarchies, alas, his role has become increasingly marginal: he started out as an alternative to Rrhamani, and okay, then he wandered between a few games as a starter and several as a reserve; he lived an illusion for four games after the collapse of Bologna (in which he wasn’t there) and finally in the emergency he discovered that, in order, the right-hand “arm” would become Di Lorenzo, even dragging Gutierrez (a left-footed player) and that to replace Juan Jesus during the match it would always be up to Gutierrez, but bringing Olivera among the three. Oops, something isn’t right, but on a large scale, not simply on the pitch: where is the dazzle of the summer transfer market?
