Napoli forfeits expensive points, Koopmeiners own goal kills Atalanta | Football

There was a lot at stake for both teams on Monday night. AS Roma still have a chance of a place among the best four in Italy, while Napoli did not want to lose the connection with league-leader AC Milan.

The home team had a dream start, because after ten minutes the ball hit the spot. Hirving Lozano was knocked down in the penalty area and although the referee dismissed the incident as nothing, VAR called him aside to watch the footage. The ball went on the spot and from eleven meters Lorenzo Insigne did not fail: 1-0.

The game then went up and down for a long time, but it was substitute Stephan El Shaarawy who gave AS Roma another point.

The club from Naples is four points behind leader AC Milan after 33 league matches. That team already won 2-0 against Genoa on Friday. Internazionale, which played one game less, has two points less than Milan.

Atalanta down in Serie A by own goal Koopmeiners

Teun Koopmeiners had a bad evening with Atalanta. The Italian team lost 2-1 to Hellas Verona in front of its own audience in the Serie A. Hellas’ second goal, 10 minutes after the break, was an own goal by Koopmeiners.

The international of Orange could do little about that. Ivan Ilic shot at keeper Juan Musso from close range, after which the ball rolled into the goal through the chest of the Koopmeiners who had followed. The former AZ player bumped into his own goalkeeper and stayed on the ground for a while.

In addition to Koopmeiners, Hans Hateboer and Marten de Roon also had a base place at Atalanta. De Roon wore the captain’s armband, Hateboer was replaced shortly after the break. Hellas Verona had taken the lead in the injury time of the first half via Federico Ceccherini. Giorgio Scalvini did something in return on behalf of the home club in the final phase.

With 51 points, 3 points more than Hellas Verona, Atalanta is in eighth place in the Italian football competition and sees the chances of European football diminishing. The team of the three Dutch internationals was eliminated by RB Leipzig in the quarter-finals of the Europa League last week.
