Naoufel (6) wanted to be the first across the street, but was involved in a serious collision on a zebra crossing Domestic

Podcast the caseOne evening after dinner, 6-year-old Naoufel from The Hague goes to the store with his father and sister to get something tasty. At least, that’s the intention. Until Naoufel is hit by a motorist while crossing the road: he is seriously injured.

In court, his very emotional mother tells what happened that day. The cheerful Naoufel is hospitalized, but miraculously recovers from his injuries.

Suspect Mohammed explains that he saw that the light was green, that he raised his window and then accelerated. When he looked up, he saw Naoufel. At the next traffic light he stops and goes back, but he does not dare to say that he is the driver. He doesn’t do that in the days that follow either. Only when the garage owner to whom he takes his car lets him know that he is reporting the noticeable damage to the police, Mohammed also reports himself.

The judge therefore wonders out loud why he did not do this earlier: “I get the impression that you only reported yourself when there was no other option.”

Reporter Ilah Rubio is following the case on behalf of AD Haagsche Courant:,,It is a case with only losers, an accident can happen in such a small corner. Usually when something like this happens, a suspect immediately shows that he is very sorry and you contact him. That hasn’t happened here for a year. He did show remorse in court, but you don’t know whether that is really remorse or whether he is hoping for a lesser sentence.”
