NAC won the first home game of this season 2-1 against Fortuna Sittard on Sunday. In an atmospheric Rat Verlegh Stadium in Breda, the opening goal of Lewis Holtby, the former German International who made his debut in the NAC shirt. The 2-0 was a wonderful shot by attacker Juho Talvition.

Already during the warm-up the audience raged in the Rat Verlegh Stadium. It was the first official competition in the renewed stadium, with a new field that was laid a little lower and with about 1500 seats extra in the stands. Due to the expansion, there were just over 20,000 supporters who provided a Breda witch’s boiler.

The first half was not good in terms of level, but entertaining. The game wandered up and down with opportunities on both sides. For example, NAC defender Boy Kemper was close to the 1-0, but his header from a corner by Juho Talvition went just wide. After 23 minutes it was hit. Sydney van Hooijdonk served Lewis Holtby and the 34-year-old German debutant hit.

Van Hooijdonk himself played unfortunate and ruined some nice opportunities. Kamal Sowah was closest to the 2-0, but the bar prevented a goal from the midfielder. On the other hand, Fortuna Sittard left a number of big opportunities in the final phase.

At the start of the second half, NAC was clearly stronger than Fortuna Sittard with substitute Mohamed Ihattaren. Mohamed Nassoh first left a chance on the 2-0, but after 58 minutes it was hit. Talvition awarded his good game with a great shot that flew in through the bottom of the bar.

After a phase in which NAC on the hunt seemed to a simple victory, the guests struck. Philip Brittijn Raak headed out of a corner from former RKC member Ihattaren. Despite the connection goal and a subsequent final offensive, NAC was actually no longer seriously in danger and it crossed the line.

NAC occupies the eighth place in the Eredivisie by winning. The Bredaners will play the away match against NEC next Sunday 24 August next Sunday.
