NAC Breda seemed to be on its way to a victory over AZ on Sunday evening, but gave up a 1-0 lead in the last part of the match. Due to the loss, the team from Breda drops to ninth place.

NAC got off to a good start and took the lead early in the match. Striker Elías Már Omarsson was in exactly the right place to shoot Boy Kemper’s cross into the goal from close range: 1-0.

AZ had little to offer in return. The team from Alkmaar hardly created any opportunities. At the end of the first half, NAC pressed again, but there were no real goal chances anymore.

AZ coach Maarten Martens was clearly dissatisfied with the play of his team and changed three players. AZ immediately put more pressure on in the second half and NAC barely left their own half. AZ got a few corner kicks, but they yielded nothing.

AZ eventually scored fifteen minutes before the end. Troy Parrott cleverly headed in a cross from Teun Koopmeiners.

The match was often messy and there were many disturbances. Just before the end, Leo Greiml received his second yellow card, which meant that the fans in the Rat Verlegh stadium still had a hard time.

AZ pressed again with one man more and was rewarded with the victory: in the second minute of extra time, Mees de Wit scored the winning goal: 1-2.

At the end, the match was again marred by riots between the players of both teams.
