Excelsior has given a fitting follow-up to the victory in the Johan Cruijff ArenA over Ajax (1-2). The Rotterdam team defeated competitor NAC Breda 1-0 in front of their own audience on Saturday. Excelsior now has 16 points and is taking some distance from the bottom places in the Eredivisie. NAC, which lost the last three matches 1-0, is now in the penultimate place with 12 points.
Denis Odoi had an unfortunate debut at NAC, which added the 37-year-old transfer-free defender to the selection last week due to personnel problems in the defense. Odoi caused a penalty midway through the first half. After a low cross from the left, the Belgian with Ghanaian roots wanted to shoot the ball away. Excelsior’s Jerolldino Bergraaf put his foot in at the last moment and went to the ground after contact with Odoi.
The referee punished NAC severely with a penalty kick. Noah Naujoks converted the penalty and made it 1-0.
After Ajax, Excelsior also beat competitor NAC Breda. Moussa Soumano hit the post with a header from close range. However, the equalizer did not materialize.
