In the Netherlands and the US, among others, unemployment is low and the economy is growing well. But consumer confidence remains remarkably low in both countries. How is that possible? Are we living in a vibe-cession: something that is not a recession, but apparently feels like one?
Maarten and Marike discuss what you actually measure when you investigate confidence in the economy. Does a bad economy lead to declining confidence, or is it the other way around? Or are there completely different reasons for this decline in confidence? How do people view the economy? Spoiler: very colored. Research shows that your age, gender, political preferences and experiences determine your outlook.
