NAC Breda had to settle for a draw (1-1) against Sparta Rotterdam on Friday evening. The Bredaners looked at a backlog at half time in their own stadium, immediately lost, but then lost defender Leo Greiml with a red card.
The club from Breda could have taken some distance from the relegation zone with a victory. The team of coach Carl Hoefkens had no longer won five games after a good period, while Sparta was on the rise on 9 points from the last five games.
Sparta took the lead in the 12th minute. Spits Tobias Lauritsen put the ball back on Carel Eiting, who passed NAC goalkeeper Daniel Bielica with a placed shot.
NAC went as the first half progressed more and more towards Nick Olij’s goal. It resulted in some chances, but the Sparta keeper was not really tested. The Rotterdammers barely came out until the break, but back from the dressing room was the first chance for Mitchell van Bergen. The Sparta attacker just shot over.
After more than an hour, Hoefkens brought Elias ómarsson for Sydney van Hooijdonk, who again did not score. Shortly after, the equalizer fell. Leo Sauer, often the best player at NAC, lashed out from just under twenty meters: 1-1. Ten minutes later, the yellow-blacks defender Greiml lost after a foul on Van Bergen, who after intervention of the VAR not punished with yellow but with red. Due to the 1-1, the difference between the two clubs remains 4 points in favor of NAC.
