Mystery: this means the ‘code N8’ on the bike paths

In bicycle tunnels and on the paths we see the ‘code N8’ throughout the city. What does that letter and number combination stand for? We figured it out.

N8 refers to the designation Nachtnet Fiets, which was devised by the municipality of Zoetermeer. This to let us cycle safely through the city at night and in the dark. The main bicycle paths are signposted and extra lighting has been installed over the entire route. They are located on routes within sight of homes and/or other road users. The network connects schools, shopping centers, sports facilities and entertainment venues with residential areas. The bicycle sheds are also equipped with lighting so that you do not have to park your bicycle in the dark.
