A record held in the National Football League for a quarter of a century. But now a great name has achieved something historic.

Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns made football history and set a new record. In the 20:18 win against the Cincinnati Bengals, the star defensive end recorded his 23rd sack of the season. Before Garrett, no other professional has achieved this within one season since the statistics were recorded in 1982.

The previous record came from 2001, when legendary defensive end Michael Strahan recorded 22.5 sacks for the New York Giants – a value that was set by Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker TJ Watt in 2021. But Garrett has now surpassed this once again.

A sack involves a defensive player bringing the opposing quarterback to the ground before he can pass the ball.

Thanks to support, the Carolina Panthers made it into the playoffs of the National Football League. The Panthers benefited from the Atlanta Falcons’ 19:17 win over the New Orleans Saints on the final day of the regular season and thus secured the NFC South title.

A three-way comparison with Atlanta and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers decided the playoff participation in favor of Carolina. All three teams are 8-9. The Panthers qualified for the playoffs for the first time since the 2017/2018 season. They lost 14:16 to the Buccaneers on Sunday night.
