Matteo Lavelli walks serenely on the San Siro lawn with the eyes of someone who no longer wants to look at his feet to see if there is a black hole next to him. Two years ago he risked falling into it. Behind his debut in Serie A – about ten minutes against Bologna at San Siro – there is a bare-knuckle climb. In 2024 he risked dying from meningitis.

Matteo, 19, a fast forward who grew up with the legend of Cristiano Ronaldo, was hospitalized for a month in hospital. He started training camp with the Primavera late and was afraid of not making it, of abandoning his dream and even something worse. Two years later here he is, happy and serene wearing the Inter shirt, his team: “Chivu told me to do what I know how to do, I tried to adapt straight away. As an Inter fan I enjoyed this stadium to the fullest, I couldn’t wait.” Chivu threw him into the fray in a match won 3-1 and dominated. All after seeing him make his pro debut with the U23s. Some numbers: 16 appearances in Serie C, a goal in two matches in the Coppa Italia category, another ring in the Youth League and another in the Supercoppa Primavera, won against Cagliari. All this after another troubled summer: Lavelli, like Frattesi among other things, underwent hernia surgery and took a while to regain his condition. Hence some matches in the Primavera and the limited initial playing time in Serie C. From the end of October onwards, Vecchi gave him more minutes.

Last year, under the guidance of Zanchetta, the Primavera won the championship with four league goals and a decisive assist in the championship final. For him also a couple of goals in the Youth League against Arsenal and Manchester City. Not bad for someone who played as a right back in the oratory as a kid. Matteo, known to all as “Pocho” due to his surname and similarity with Lavelli”, grew up in Bernareggio, in Brianza, after having cleverly dribbled through swimming and rugby. His father Diego played in Serie C and is now a scout. It’s a question of feeling. Two years ago he scored 20 goals in 26 games with Zanchetta’s Under 18s. Before wearing the Nerazzurri shirt he played for Monza and Renate. Among his points of reference, in addition to Ronaldo, there is Marcus Thuram who made his debut in Serie A and has now closed.
