Musiala extension at FC Bayern? Dreesen becomes clear

There has been wild speculation about Jamal Musiala’s future for weeks. Jan-Christian Dreesen, CEO of FC Bayern, now spoke plainly. The 56-year-old also gave coach Thomas Tuchel support.

“Of course we will reach for the ceiling,” said Dreesen about extending Musiala’s contract before Munich’s Champions League game against Galatasaray Istanbul at the “DAZN” microphone.

However, there is “no reason at all to rush. We will discuss this with him calmly – and I believe it will end well,” said the CEO.

Musiala’s contract with FC Bayern runs until 2026. “Sport Bild” recently reported that the Munich team definitely wants to retain the youngster in the long term. Accordingly, the 20-year-old offensive player could almost triple his current salary in the event of an extension.

Since Musiala is currently expected to earn around eight million euros per year, he would then be well over 20 million euros.

“Jamal is a very important part of the team. He is one of the greatest talents that German football has. And who would we be if we didn’t want to commit this player to us permanently? And that’s why the interest is completely clear,” emphasized Dreesen .

The Munich team are apparently a good step further in discussions with replacement goalkeeper Sven Ulreich, who recently represented the national goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who has now returned, for weeks. The 35-year-old’s working paper expires at the end of the season. “We owe Sven a big thank you. Sven did a fantastic job while Manuel was out. We are in talks with Sven about extending his contract and I am very optimistic that we will be able to do that together,” said Dreesen .

FC Bayern “totally capable of criticism”

The Bayern boss also supports coach Thomas Tuchel after his interview scandal. “We are on the same page, there is no leaf that fits between us,” Dreesen made clear.

“Thomas gave his opinion space that day. It’s also important that the people he’s talking to have to endure that sometimes, not just the other way around. It’s not a one-way street,” Dreesen continued.

The chairman of the board assured that FC Bayern was “totally capable of taking criticism”. But one must also recognize the Munich team’s achievements for German football. “When we win, we like to be praised, not just criticized,” said Dreesen.
