The offer it will start again on the occasion of January 1stNew Year’s Eve, and will include state museums and archaeological parks which families and tourists will be able to enter for free.
Museums open? In Florence, not everyone agrees
However, not everyone agreed with this proposal. Among the opponents, there is for example Eike Schmidt, the director of the Uffizi Gallery in Florencewho instead decided to close the prestigious museum, especially on Christmas days, with the idea of enhancing the value of the family.
Just like all the most prestigious museums, including the Louvre in Paris, the Prado in Madrid, the museums in London, the Met and the Moma in New York. The mayor of Florence Dario Nardelladid not follow Schmidt, but he decided instead to keep the Palazzo Nuovo open.

Go for art in Rome
The city of Rome has not even limited itself to opening during the Christmas holidays but has even launched an independent initiative: “Christmas in the Museums”. From 23 December to 8 January it will be possible to visit permanent collections and temporary exhibitions throughout the capital.
Particularly, the civic museums will remain open on 31 December until 2 pmin addition to January 1 for the whole day: therefore the Capitoline museums, the Ara pacis and Trajan’s Markets.
Moreover, during the whole Christmas period, it will be possible to visit the numerous museums with free admission. And then: the Giovanni Barracco Museumthe Carlo Bilotti – Orangery of Villa Borghesethat of the Walls, the Napoleonic, the Pietro Canonica, that of the Roman Republic and that of Garibaldi’s memory, of Casal de’ pazzi and Villa di Massenzio.
Museums open on January 1st between Turin and Rome
Also in the city of Turin several museums have chosen to guarantee the opening of January 1stwith free admission.
You can visit the cinema’s Museumalso open on 31 December, the Egyptian Museum, the Salvador Dalì – The exhibition, the Frida Kahlo – The chaos inside, the Pinacoteca Agnelli, the Mauto, the Royal Museums, the Galleries of Italy, Robert Doisneau and the Venaria Palace. As for Milaninstead, museum openings on the occasion of holidays they are even wider.
In fact, all civic museums will be open throughout the Christmas period including December 31st, but not January 1st. All the others will guarantee opening, simply with reduced hours to allow employees to rest, including the Pac, the House of Memory, the Royal Palace, the Pinacoteca di Brera, free from 10 to 17 on New Year’s Eve.
