Musetti transformed into a grass player at Wimbledon

He had never won a match at Wimbledon, now he’s in the 3rd round without having dropped any sets. With the Pole there is a double revenge to take: for himself, but also for Roger…

Near the red clay fields of the La Spezia club where Musetti grew up, at a certain moment and not by chance, a grass one appeared. It was summer 2021 and Lorenzo, just 19 years old, was busy with his final exams at the Parini Institute in Cecina. It was necessary to come up with something to prepare the boy for the first Wimbledon tournament, reconciling study and the ambitions of a growing career. Hence the intuition of coach Simone Tartarini: to obtain a field for Lorenzo from a natural grass soccer field – owned by the Riccò Le Rondini club, adjacent to the San Benedetto Junior Tennis Club. An idea that became reality thanks to the work of two gentlemen, Franco Piagneri and Giancarlo Raveca, while Musetti was in Paris for Roland Garros, a tournament in which he enchanted the world by reaching the round of 16, where he lost against Djokovic after being ahead 2-0 retiring in the fifth set.
