Record world champions Brazil will have to do without Eder Militao at the World Cup in the summer.
The Real Madrid central defender underwent surgery on Tuesday after suffering a serious muscle injury to his left thigh and will be out for several months. The Spanish record champions announced this. The procedure took place at a specialist in Finland.
The 28-year-old sustained the injury last week during Real’s 2-1 win against Deportivo Alaves. According to consistent media reports from Spain and Brazil, Militao will have to take a break for at least five months. Participation in the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada (June 11 to July 19) is therefore excluded.
Militao’s loss is a setback for national coach Carlo Ancelotti’s Selecao. Brazil will face Morocco, Haiti and Scotland in Group C.
