The DFB squad for the World Cup was actually supposed to be announced on May 12th. But now the national coach has postponed the date.
Postponement of the squad announcement, later start of the training camp: Julian Nagelsmann has adjusted his plans for World Cup preparation. The national coach will not make his 26-man squad for the World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada until May 21st instead of May 12th Frankfurt am Main present. The German Football Association (DFB) announced this on Tuesday. Tournament preparation at partner adidas in Herzogenaurach also begins two days later than planned, on May 27th.
The background to the adjustment to the start of the training camp is the pairing in the DFB Cup final. On May 23rd, record winners Bayern Munich and defending champions VfB Stuttgart will meet. There will be numerous national players on both sides of the lawn of the Berlin Olympic Stadium. Starting preparations for the World Cup just two days later would have made little sense. Nagelsmann will now nominate his squad after the last Bundesliga matchday.
The DFB selection will play two more international matches before the World Cup (June 11th to July 19th). On May 31st there will be a dress rehearsal against hosts USA in Mainz in Mainz and on June 6th. At the tournament, the four-time world champion will face World Cup newcomers Curacao (June 14th/Houston), Ivory Coast (June 20th/Toronto) and Ecuador (June 25th/New York/New Jersey).
