Murder of Peter R. de Vries: two Brabanders should demand up to 14 years in prison

Long prison sentences were demanded against the nine suspects in the murder of Peter R. de Vries on Wednesday in the court in Amsterdam. Life sentences were imposed on the alleged shooter, the driver and the ‘murder broker’. Two people from Brabant will have to go to prison for 14 and 3 years, if it is up to the justice system.

Those two people from Brabant are Ludgardo S. (35) from Tilburg and Christopher W. (28) from Helmond. Ludgardo S. heard a demand for a 14-year prison sentence because he went reconnaissance in Amsterdam before the attack and allegedly arranged for a few boys to film De Vries after the attack. By quickly distributing videos and photos, the shock of the assassination attempt would be even greater. Partly for this reason, according to justice, the murder also took place in the center of Amsterdam, where many people would have witnessed it. The Justice Department believes that this also constitutes a ‘terrorist intent’.

It is striking that Lucho, the brother of Ludgardo S., was shot dead on December 21, 2022 at a gas station on Ringbaan-Oost in Tilburg. The shooter stated that he was threatened by Ludgardo and Lucho and therefore had a gun with him. When the two suddenly showed up at the gas station, the gunman pulled out his gun and killed Lucho.

In 2011, Ludgardo S. was sentenced to eight years in prison for a fatal robbery of a phone shop in Vlaardingen. One of the robbers shot and killed a man. S. was also arrested for prohibited possession of weapons, drunk driving and theft.

Christopher W.
Christopher W. from Helmond ultimately played only a small role in the attack on the crime reporter and was sentenced to three years in prison on Wednesday. According to the judiciary, he had previously been given the murder order, but could not carry it out because he was in custody for another offense at the time. He would have managed people from prison.

All nine suspects refused to explain anything about the murder during the hearing. It was not clear why De Vries had to die and who the client would be. According to the justice department, a motive for the murder is that De Vries was a confidante of the key witness in the Marengo trial. The brother and lawyer of key witness Nabil B. were previously murdered.
