Municipality wants ‘social rent and purchase’ on old school site Dwingeloo

If it is up to the municipality of Westerveld, there will be a ‘mix of social rent and purchase’ on the former school site on the Bruges in Dwingeloo. The site has been empty for years, but the municipality wants to get rid of the plot quickly.

“We are in talks with Actium to build houses there,” says alderman Klaas Smidt. “Preferably, this concerns a mix of social rent and purchase. But we have yet to determine exactly what the ratio will be.”

The site on the Bruges has been empty for years and is now somewhat overgrown. The plot of land is owned by the municipality. “We would like to sell it to free up money for other investments,” explains Smidt. “That’s why we want to speed up the project.”

More privateers on the coast

There have been more hijackers on the coast in front of the plot lately. Because the plot is owned by the municipality, it offers opportunities for many home seekers. A project developer usually asks more money for a home and those prices are virtually unaffordable for starters. That is why the municipality is looking for possibilities to also serve the starters in the village. “We are in talks with this group,” says Klaas Smidt. “Although it will be impossible to provide all home-seeking starters in the village with a home,” he emphasizes.

Both Smidt and Actium confirm that they are taking the character of the village into account in the plans. “The place deserves quality,” says the alderman. “High-rise buildings are out of the question. We want to build in a modest way.”
