The renovation of the Leiden city hall has been completed and the building is now back in use. The town hall has been closed since the beginning of 2020 for a major renovation.

Workplaces have been created in the renovated town hall for many more civil servants than before. The city council will also return there today. The monumental building now offers space for more than 500 employees. The town hall is now partly open to the public.

The town hall will, among other things, be the workplace of the college of mayor and aldermen and the city council will also meet again after the summer holidays. Public services, such as applying for a driver’s license or passport, will remain in the Municipal Office in LEVEL behind Leiden Central Station.

At the same time as the renovation, the monumental council chamber, the facade on the Breestraat side, the tower and the chimes have also been restored. The work in the council chamber and on the administrative floor will continue until the summer.

Open house
On 10 and 11 September, the municipality is organizing an open house for residents and business relations at the same time as the Heritage Days. The wedding hall will also open again for bridal couples from October.
