The municipality of Zandvoort wants to prevent problems caused by alcohol consumption and warns visitors to the circuit to drink it only in the ‘places intended for this purpose, such as terraces of catering establishments’. In the rest of the center it is forbidden to consume alcohol.
Furthermore, supermarkets, shops, liquor stores and takeaway restaurants in the center (including snack bars) are not allowed to sell alcoholic beverages between 3 p.m. and 7 a.m. in the coming days.
This was not the case in previous years. In a council letter, the municipality of Zandvoort writes that the alcohol ban applies to promote public order and general safety.
The president of the Formula 1 Women’s fan club made a call two days ago in the NRC to ban alcohol around the circuit following the large amount of women who were harassed last year.
