The atmosphere in Roermond’s town hall has been seriously disturbed, but it is still unclear whether the municipal council will agree to an external independent investigation requested by the works council.
In recent years, the Works Council has received many complaints from civil servants.
unworkable
These complaints include intimidation, verbal aggression, stress, an undesirable and unworkable atmosphere and many reports of illness. The works council is therefore calling for an independent and external investigation in the short term. An email from alderman Frans Schreurs to the city council shows that the council takes the signals seriously, but has not yet made a decision about the investigation.
bottom stone
The largest party in the city council, the Liberal People’s Party Roermond (LVR), wants the bottom stone to come out. “We do not know what is going on,” says LVR councilor Bert Achten. “We see that there is a high turnover of personnel, especially at the top of the organization. Either full disclosure is made or there is an external investigation into the abuses in city hall.” According to the LVR, there are already high costs of hiring specialist agencies. The councilor says it is in the city’s interest that the problem is addressed quickly. “Civil servants must be able to do their job well, so that the service is very good.”
