The Municipal Credit Bank (GKB) Drenthe has existed for more than forty years and is located in Assen. She helps people with debts or financial problems that they can no longer solve on their own. In recent years, fourteen municipalities have had their residents with debt problems helped by the GKB.
The municipalities of Assen, Hoogeveen and Meppel currently still own the credit bank, as a joint arrangement. Eleven other municipalities, in Drenthe, Groningen and Overijssel, concluded a service agreement with the club. Their residents with debts can turn to the credit bank for help, but the municipalities are not responsible for the ins and outs of the institution, and are therefore not responsible for any deficits.
Of the fourteen municipalities with which the GKB had contracts, twelve are joining forces with the new independent institution. In Drenthe, the GKB works for Aa en Hunze, Assen, Borger-Odoorn, Hoogeveen, Meppel, De Wolden, Tynaarlo and Westerveld. It will remain that way in the future.
