The rollicking folk-rock track was produced by Aaron Dessner of The National at Long Pond Studios in New York and features vocals from Marcus Mumford and Hozier.
Hozier has worked regularly with Mumford & Sons over the years. In 2017 he joined Mumford & Sons on stage at the Longitude Festival to cover The Beatles’ “A Little Help From My Friends”, and in 2023 the musicians joined forces at Austin City Limits for “Awake My Soul”.
New album with one less man
Mumford & Sons released their latest album “Rushmere” in March. They recorded it with producer Dave Cobb at RCA Studio A in Nashville, as well as in Savannah, Georgia, and at Mumford’s own studio in Devon, England. The record was the group’s first as a trio following the departure of Winston Marshall, who had left the band partly due to political differences with his bandmates.
Earlier this week, the band welcomed surprise guests Lainey Wilson and Sierra Ferrell to the stage in Nashville to make some special changes to their usual setlist. Ferrell joined midway through the set to cover Townes Van Zandt’s “If I Needed You.”
Wilson appeared later in the set just before the encore. They started with their own song “Things a Man Oughta Know” and then moved on to a duet with a microphone, singing the lesser known song “Awake My Soul” from the album “Sigh No More.”
