‘Multiple layers of cream: join that trend or not?’ † Columns & Opinion

“Let me be very honest: as a young person you might get away with this, with smooth skin and hardly any wrinkles, but when you walk out the door at age with such a shiny, oily face, it looks a bit strange. You are missing the point, because this ‘glowworm look’ is not for everyone.

A matte look is a bit fresher when you go out the door than a ‘sweat-looking head’. Of course it is a good idea to use a rich, nourishing night cream at night that can then be absorbed well. A firm cream mask is also recommended, because you just let it do its job during the night and your skin looks like reborn the next day.

sugar coating

Hailey Bieber, however, promotes her beauty step-by-step plan under the heading ‘glazed donut skincare’, where she indicates that after the treatments your skin looks like a freshly made donut with a good layer of sugar coating.

The 24-year-old model and actress is of course the example of someone with perfect skin, so it’s no wonder that her step-by-step plan arouses interest. If she does it simply, it goes like this: she starts with a serum, then a day cream and then a little more oil on top. Under the motto ‘unfiltered, the new is perfect’ she also shows this fully in her posts. According to her and various experts, this will be the latest beauty trend for 2022.

I myself say: do it at home, but rather not leave the house with it! You actually look just like after a treatment at a beautician. The skin is fully nourished, because there too you receive ‘several layers’ of skin care in succession. But time is taken for this, a mask must be able to work well, a peeling makes the loose skin flakes disappear (and therefore makes it nice and smooth) and all other nourishing products must also be given the chance to work.

donut

Do you want the glazed donuttry the treatment? Hailey proceeds as follows. Remove your makeup with an oil-based cleanser (and never use disposable wipes), followed by a moisturizing cleanser to remove the leftovers. Pat the skin dry with a damp washcloth after washing, instead of rubbing with a towel.

Then use a peptide serum, let it absorb well and follow with a full cream that can be absorbed well at night. Applying eye cream under the eyes is also a plus. And don’t forget the lips, a good lip balm is a real must, so apply it nice and thick. “If I can’t get into bed like a donut, I’m doing something wrong,” Hailey said.

The question is whether hubby Justin also thinks this is such a good idea, because men are often not really fans of an ‘oiled face’, but waking up with a fresh glow is also worth something.

stacking

Everyone has their own beauty favourites, but when ‘layering’, or stacking creams, it is important, according to the skin specialists, not to combine certain beauty ingredients. Silicone-based products, such as foundations, don’t go well with a silicone-based cream, so keep this in mind.

Even if, for example, you apply a sunscreen product over the existing cream in the summer, you should take this into account! Always wait a few minutes before applying any make-up. Applying serums in succession is also not recommended, because these products have a high concentration of active ingredients and that can cause skin irritation.

Be careful with mixing

Products with the addition of benzoyl peroxide have a longer reaction time, so let them soak in for a while. Sometimes the skin can use something extra, for example after a winter period when the skin has become somewhat dull. Then add a few drops of a booster to your existing cream and you have a two-in-one product!

But beware… Retinol, vitamin C and benzoyl peroxide are strong boosters and they are therefore not so easy to combine and can cause irritation of the skin if you ‘mix’. It is best to work with one ingredient at a time to allow the skin to get used to it and then increase it to two ingredients if necessary.

pilling

Another annoying phenomenon is that skin care products form small spheres on the face – this is known as ‘pilling’. The emulsion is, as it were, not absorbed and thus remains on the skin. The reason may be that you have used too much cream or a cream that is too heavy, which does not absorb enough into the skin. The solution is therefore to use less and also a lighter version.

Applying another layer too quickly can also cause it to pill, for example if you are in a hurry. Not a good idea, always take the time to apply the layers of cream one after the other. Exfoliating or scrubbing the skin is also important, because that way you remove dead skin cells and you have an even, smooth skin.”
