MSV Duisburg: Dispute over incorrectly warned BVB player – appeal dismissed

Protest at the DFB without success

Third division club MSV Duisburg failed with its appeal against the rating of the game against Borussia Dortmund II. The traditional club threatened with relegation had filed this because, according to the MSV, Dortmund’s Franz Pfanne was used in the 3-1 defeat on February 6, although he should have been suspended due to five yellow cards previously.

The sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) came to the conclusion that there were only four yellow cards for Pfanne. In the game report of the previous game in question against Meppen (Dortmund lost 0:1) there was no warning against him, but against teammate Maik Amedick. Duisburg noted that Amedick had not played at all, but was cautioned for a “foul game” while sitting on the substitutes’ bench in the 50th minute. However, neither the SVM nor the BVB had lodged an objection, emphasized the DFB (for notification). According to the association, before the Duisburg game, the Dortmund team obtained confirmation from the DFB officials that Pfanne “according to the game reports had received four yellow cards so far”. Pfanne wears the shirt number 23 at BVB, Amedick the 22.

The MSV will now proceed against the rejection of the objection. “We will be appealing this verdict through our sports attorney. In our opinion, the DFB did not take into account in its judgment that every club is responsible for the proper control of personal penalties,” said MSV managing director Thomas Wulf.
