A woman suffered a cardiac arrest in a game of the handball Bundesliga in the stands. She owes the courageous intervention of a first aider that she survived.
It was in the right place at the right time after a dramatic incident had overshadowed the handball Bundesliga game between SC DHfK Leipzig and HSG Wetzlar (24:25) last Sunday. In the 39th minute of the game there was a medical emergency in the stands: a woman suffered a cardiac arrest – but thanks to the quick intervention, a viewer came to a happy end.
Behind the person concerned was by chance a nurse who immediately recognized the seriousness of the situation. Leipzig’s managing director Karsten Günther said: “She immediately started to take life -saving measures.” The game was interrupted immediately, in the hall it became quiet.
More helpers were added quickly. According to Günther, the team doctor and the club’s emergency doctor were able to intervene immediately. Likewise, a sponsor of the DHFK, who is also a doctor. Together with the Johanniter’s medical staff, they provided first aid in a grandstand entrance behind a privacy screen – with a happy exit.
The person concerned is the wife of a long -time employee of the association. She was brought to the Leipzig University Hospital. The employee was later able to report that his wife was in cardiology for observation, but was already “fully on the steamer again”. You even wanted to know how the game went out.
He organized her: “She would like to thank her helpers and especially with the first aid.” The SC DHfK presented the first aider a jersey of the club as a sign of recognition. Günther emphasized: “For her and us, the most important thing was that the woman was doing well again. Even without points it was the most important home win of the year.”
After around 16 minutes of interruption, the game had continued. Günther praised: “The behavior of the audience, the opponent, the referees and the court court – that was very special and very professional from everyone.”
