“Move the low-water mark 100 meters”: this is how experts want to protect our coast

The proposal is one of the conclusions of 90 experts who have been working on coastal defense for more than a year and a half.

With the works that are already underway, our coast can withstand a sea level rise of 30 centimeters by 2050. But more is needed. In the new Flemish Coastal Vision, in addition to moving the low-water mark to the sea, there is also talk of new dunes and the reinforcement of the ports. There is no longer any question of an artificial island off the coast. The Flemish Government must draw up a definitive plan.
