Mountain king Giulio Ciccone succeeds Mathieu van der Poel as winner of the Profronde of Surhuisterveen

Giulio Ciccone has won the 41st Pro Round of Surhuisterveen. The Italian mountain king of the last Tour de France was the first to cross the line in his polka dot jersey on Tuesday evening.

Ciccone was one of the major crowd pullers in Surhuisterveen. He was recorded in extremis by the organization last weekend after the number two in the final classification Tadej Pogacar had canceled. Tour winner Jonas Vingegaard was unable to come because of a ceremony from his Jumbo-Visma team.

Ciccone beat Wout Poels in Surhuisterveen, who finished second. The Spaniard Carlos Rodriguez was the number three on the podium.

Last year, the professional round was won by Mathieu van der Poel. The Dutchman was now not at the start in Surhuisterveen.
