A motorist left the road around a quarter past eight on Saturday evening and drove down an embankment. The accident happened on the Weteringweg in Waalwijk.
The driver came from a side street and probably overlooked the fact that the road ended there. So he did not turn left or right, but drove straight down the dike.
The car bounced onto the side of the road and then came to rest upside down in a ditch six meters below.
The fire brigade arrived at the scene of the accident with a tanker truck, an aerial work platform, an emergency vehicle and a rescue team. There seemed to be no one left in the car. To ensure that no one was underneath, the car was lifted with a crane.
The surrounding reeds were also searched, because the car had crashed heavily. Ultimately, the fire brigade found no driver and no other occupants.
A recovery company took the badly damaged car away. The road was opened to traffic around a quarter to ten.
